For years, homegrown founders Mike and Pete Mitchell have been brightening our days with smile-inducing scoops of ice cream. Up until now, they've done so through a growing roster of neighborhood scoop shops. Well, hold onto your paper caps, boys and girls, as Mitchell's prepares to open its category-crushing ice cream factory in Ohio City. Years in the making, the scoop shop and production facility has taken up residence in the historic Rialto Theatre, a former vaudeville space dating back to 1919. Most recently, it was a community eyesore in the wake of Club Moda's infamous, spectacular demise. When it opens this month, it will be the eighth link in the Mitchell's chain of retail shops. But it is so much more than that: It will be a family friendly neighborhood gathering place for Ohio City residents to share experiences over ice cream.
