If Playhouse Square were not in downtown Cleveland — and it almost wasn't! — our lives would be nastier and more brutish. But thanks to several visionaries back in the 1970s, we are blessed with one of the nation's finest venues for enjoying Broadway plays and live performances of all kinds. It is the largest performing arts center outside of New York City, with theaters that are comfortable to sit in and glorious to behold. And this jewel is about to gleam even brighter with the gorgeous $5.5 million renovation of the Ohio Theatre. Playhouse Square is truly a national treasure, and it's all ours.
