Win or lose, John Elway, you still look like a horse.
Every Friday, Scene calendar editor Cris Glaser provides a random but reliable sampling of things to do this weekend. But this Friday, Cris is off, so we let Vince the Polack do it, which kind of explains the precipitous drop off in class. For more options, log onto entertainment.clevescene.com. And check back Monday for C-Notes' Picks of the Week. Friday: Come down to The Q on Friday night to see if Bernie Kosar can finally exorcise the demons of John Elway. Kosar’s Gladiators (3-2) take on Elway’s Colorado Crush (2-3) in fast-paced Arena Football action. Maybe if Cleveland wins we can finally forget about The Drive and The Fumble. Probably not. If we lose, however, we can always resort to comparing John Elway’s face to that of a horse. We’re not below that, right? The Cleveland Gladiators take on the Colorado Crush tonight at Quicken Loans Arena, 100 Gateway Plaza. Tickets are $13 to $70. Call 216-685-9000 or visit www.clevelandgladiators.com. Saturday: Get some crazy comedy gold tonight for a bargain with Cleveland’s premiere improv group, Something Dada, when they chop their already ridiculously low ticket price of $10 to a ridiculously cheap $5 for two shows. Entirely audience-driven, never the same twice, and full of general merriment and humor, Something Dada is a bargain at any price. $5 gets you into the 8 p.m. or 10 p.m. show at the Tower Press Building, 1900 Superior Ave., across from The Plain Dealer. Call 216-696-4242 or visit www.somethingdada.com. Sunday: The Akron Symphony Orchestra pairs with Mad Cap Puppet Theatre tonight for A Fairy Tale Fantasy, a combination of a classical concert with Fraggle Rock and Sesame Street style puppets. Assistant conductor Chris Lees promises fun, upbeat, and accessible pieces by Mozart and Dvorak, to which the puppets will dance, generally act goofy, and perform goofy skits. The concert gets underway at 3 p.m. today at E.J. Thomas Hall, 198 Hill Street. Tickets are just $10 to $15. Call 330-972-7570 or visit www.ejthomashall.com. Monday: Burgers and beer are the bare minimum standards for any good bar. The best ones do it cheap or well. The Tavern Co. in Cleveland Heights does both, serving up a delicious quarter-pound burger and a beer for only $5. You get the usual accoutrements of fries, toppings, and a pickle, and your choice Guinness, Harp, Bass, Dortmunder, Dos Equis, Labatt, or any domestic bottle. Yummy and cheap. The $5 burger special runs 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Tavern Co., 2260 Lee Road. Call 216-321-6001.
