From fire stations to four-star restaurants, clambakes are ubiquitous this time of year. But for foodies seeking something more than the usual clams-corn-chicken lineup, Salmon Dave's annual Maine Event — which turns the focus on fresh Maine lobster — always serves as a highly anticipated alternative.

“This is our 18th year for the promotion and we continue to maintain the value,” says George Schindler, owner and president of parent company Hospitality Restaurants. Not surprisingly, the popularity remains high. "Some of our regular guests start calling around Labor Day to make sure they don’t miss out on it!” Schindler says.

Tops on the special menu is the the New England Style Lobster Bake. The jumbo-sized dinner includes a whole Maine lobster, grilled half chicken, steamed littleneck clams, clam broth, redskin potatoes, and roasted corn on the cob — all for $39.95. On Sundays, the “Bake” is offered for $15 off — only $24.95. The Sunday special is so popular that Salmon Dave’s opens earlier than usual — at 1 p.m. — just to accommodate the steep demand for reservations.

Other lobster-centric options include the restaurant's award-winning lobster bisque, and entrees like the simply prepared twin lobster tails served with drawn butter or the tenderloin Newburg: two petite filet mignons topped with lobster meat and a rich sherry-spiked Newburg sauce.

This year's Maine Event continues through November 26.
