Ohioans Drop Mad Scrilla on Jager

Given the amount of alcohol Ohioans bought in 2012, it's reasonable to suspect that most of you are drunk right now.

We and our boozy compatriots have now officially broken the record for annual liquor sales, "for at least the sixth straight year," reported Rex Santus for the Plain Dealer.

At $849 million, 2012 liquor sales were up seven percent ($55.3 million) from last year's figure and may be attributed to fancier tastes.

High-fives all around for these ongoing efforts to carry state commerce on our backs — or our livers, as it were. (Am I right?)

These were the top 10 spirituous liquors in Ohio last year, based on gallons sold, according to the Ohio Division of Liquor Control. (Who on earth is buying all that Jager?)

1. Kamchatka Vodka — 364,914 gallons

2. Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey — 355,068 gallons

3. Bacardi Superior Light Rum — 287,378 gallons

4. Absolut Vodka — 281,898 gallons

5. Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey — 281,295 gallons

6. Captain Morgan Spiced Rum — 279,512 gallons

7. Smirnoff Vodka — 271,204 gallons

8. Jagermeister — 256,526 gallons

9. Black Velvet Canadian Whiskey — 231,888 gallons

10. Korski Vodka — 229,404 gallons
