Dish of the Day: Fried Perch @ Seven Seas

When it comes to eating seafood in Cleveland, the choice often is between a few pricey fish houses or inexpensive (and risky to public health) fast food joints. It's those middle-of-the-road places where you can safely (and affordably) enjoy a platter of fish that are so rare.

But Seven Seas Seafood, serving the west side of Cleveland since 1964, comes to the rescue. Considered a retail fish market first, selling a fresh selection of everything from scallops to clams, Seven Seas also cooks its fresh seafood to order.

The way to go here is the lake perch ($11.95). A whopping half-pound serving of freshly caught fish is lightly battered in Seven Seas' secret breading and then fried until golden brown. It's served with house-made creamy coleslaw, a generous portion of crinkle fries, and a roll.

Another route to go is the seafood platter dinner ($9.95), which includes two pieces of battered white fish, two butterflied shrimp, and six breaded scallops. The platter is also served with fries, slaw and as roll.

Keep in mind that this is a retail fish market, so there is no dining room. All meals are to-go only.
