Cleveland Clinic Doctors Playing Pickup Cricket in Shaker

How are we feeling about a cricket-themed Sandlot sequel set in Pakistan?

This just in from the NEOMG (Pronounced NyohMyGod): Eight Cleveland Clinic doctors from India and Pakistan enjoyed some pickup cricket in Shaker Heights last night. It's actually a cute story, all these intensive care docs trying to get some exercise that reminds them of home. Word on the street is they're trying to make it a regular thing.

But get this: Evidently, India and Pakistan have a cricket rivalry that makes Browns-Steelers shenanigans look like flirting:

"Imagine two nations that have more in common than most families. Then imagine four wars and a stockpile of nuclear weapons on both sides," was the lead for an NPR story about a 3-game series between the two nations in January of this year.

So the meeting of the medical minds over the wicket and bat in Shaker Heights might actually have represented a lovely (if unintentional) cultural reconciliation. Ain't that something!

And if you haven't read Netherland by Joseph O'Neill, it's the best contemporary book about cricket on the market. It's also a sort of update on The Great Gatsby. So, you know, worth your time.
