When a subway was being considered for the Euclid Corridor in the late 1980s, which may have sparked rail transit development elsewhere, Scene/Free Times couldn't wait to pounce on the project, Now that new rail systems are practically a cliche in even lesser cities, Scene suddenly whines about Cleveland's lack of development in its existing rail transit system. Figures.

Funny, if we're talking about absence of facts and figures, I see ZIP emanating from Scene's tired, debunked point that by clogging up airspace at Hopkins after diverting traffic from Burke Airport, the land under Burke (landfill that has been deemed unsuitable for any type of development other than for its current use) would suddenly turn into Chicago's Gold Coast. (And, no, this is not the same as the land under the stadium, Science Center and Rock Hall.)

As another commenter aptly pointed out, "Either this author is intentionally trying to misread the public with selective information OR he has no real ability to cover an aviation beat as he clearly doesn't get how aviation works."

Let's add lack of basic business sense to that: At the very least, why don't we at least wait until there is an actual developer-- or even likelyhood of one -- before ramming through downtown with a bulldozer?

There are all sorts of empty lots and buildings -- not to mention actual, develop-able Lakefront property -- already in the long arduous task of attracting investors. To think that adding to this glut is going to turn Cleveland into some sort of Miami Beach is the ultimate in delusion.

Well put, Hustla! I am also taken aback by the fraudulence of the writer when he tries to pass off previous projects' so-called failures as being subject to the "whims" of developers. The decline of the (original) Flats or any downtown mall or project -- perceived or not -- have been obviously subject to the whims of Cleveland's populace -- all to many whom seem to think private developers should be subject to their personal whims as well.

I am really am amazed with the self-entitlement of some of the commenters.

Todd apparently stepped up to the plate when no one else would. Most of the complainers just sit around a bar all year just expecting a massive Pride event to magically appear once a year, an event they may or may not patronize, depending on their whim, and, if they attend, belligerently hand over a $5 donation like it was their life savings -- as if they were funding anything more than a minute fraction of a fraction of the costs of mounting such an event.

Want to know what the real problem is, folks? Check a mirror -- for something other than plucked eyebrows.

Sometimes, like during RNC, artists need to just accept their own irrelevance. No one needs to convince anyone that Cleveland still has some bad neighborhoods.

Will DOUGLAS please do a bit of research before pretending to know what the Filipino food situation is in Cleveland? Nipa Hut not only has a Saturday buffet, it has daily restaurant service -- a Filipino style dining room with a large selection that diners can order from a walk-up a counter. Really, this Is at least the second time that Douglas has written about Filipino food in Northeast Ohio and neglected to mention this popular restaurant component of a popular Filipino grocery store.

Sorry, make that DOUG, not Dave, and it should be "grocery store," not "grocery story."
