Crystal Castles are having quite a year. The band’s latest album, III, is its best-selling disc to date and the group is currently on a headlining tour that will culminate with a festival dates. Then, it’ll join Depeche Mode for its fall tour. It makes sense that the group would be paired with an ’80s synth pop act – its music looks back to the era, albeit with an decidedly lo-fi and experimental approach and The Cure’s Robert Smith has collaborated with the band in the past. A trippy mix of trip-hop and techno, III doesn’t exactly translate to the dance club but the band’s always had a great live show that deviates from the conventional DJ approach. (Jeff Niesel)
