For years now, British singer-songwriter Frank Turner has helmed a music career tinged with the emotions of punk and the capabilities of folk. His latest album, Tape Deck Heart, continues his journey of autobiographical yearning. “The Way I Tend to Be” is a nice highlight off the new album, the interplay between mandolin and percussion offering an exciting shuffle. As the album rolls onward, Turner maintains the contemplative mood. He reels in his philosophies with a tidy matter-of-fact approach to singing and songwriting. The chorus in “Plain Sailing Weather,” meanwhile, showcases Turner’s eagerness to turn up the volume when it counts. And with a relentless touring mentality, his live performances come complete with plenty of musical cred. (Sandy)
