This 149-acre former fishing club was acquired by the Geauga Park District in 1993. Avid anglers continue to catch a wide variety of fish, including bass, bluegill, and northern pike. The three lakes and 40 acres of wetlands also attract beavers, great blue herons, red-shouldered hawks, turtles, and a wide variety of songbirds and migrating waterfowl. Beartown Lakes Reservation is an excellent spot for hiking, horseback riding, sledding, and cross-country skiing.

This 642-acre tract, primarily covered with a mature beech-maple forest, is bisected by Big Creek. Many species of neotropical songbirds migrate from equatorial rainforests to nest in Big Creek Park; wildlife watchers also enjoy spotting deer, turtles, beaver, and small woodland animals.

Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve is a 287-acre system of boreal forest, glacial relic ponds, and wetlands. The area supports several rare and endangered plants, including the northern rein orchid, cranberry plants, and the carnivorous pitcher plant. Some of the rare animal species are the nesting brown creepers, northern water thrush, spotted turtles, and four-toed salamanders.

Caley is a semideveloped park reserved for wildlife and nature study. Its 507 acres include wetlands, forest, and field habitats, including two large ponds and Wellington Creek, which runs roughly through the middle of the reservation. Two popular activities include wildflower hikes and fishing, but visitors are welcome just to come and enjoy the quiet and natural beauty of this unique park.

Carlisle is the largest of the Lorain County Metro Parks, encompassing 1,820 acres, with the Forest Hills Golf Course at the northeastern end. Carlisle also offers a large variety of events and activities throughout the year and is home to the administrative offices of the entire park system.

The ruggedly beautiful reserve is home to about 240 species of native plants, including ferns, wildflowers, trees, and shrubs growing in the gravelly soil of the park. In 1993, Lake Metroparks acquired 101 acres along the Chagrin River, located in the communities of Eastlake and Willoughby. Most of the park's natural areas are made up of dense shrubs, with pockets of mature forest bordering wetland areas. The Chagrin River is the park's southern boundary. Look for great blue herons, kingfishers, bank swallows, and sandpipers near the river.

Charlemont is a 757-acre, undeveloped park located in the main farming region of southern Lorain County. It's the only reservation in the Lorain County Metro Parks system that allows rabbit and pheasant hunting. The park is also a favorite of horseback riders, who are free to enjoy the equestrian trails built and maintained by the Lorain County chapter of the Ohio Horse Council.
