As one of the few bars that closes early on New Year’s Eve, the Happy Dog opens at 11 a.m. on New Year’s day with biscuits and gravy to help you nurse that hangover. Happy Dog will also serve its trademark hot dogs with locally sourced meat. These dogs are offered with a medley of different toppings and sauces ranging from the eccentric (“alien” pickle relish, black truffle honey mustard) to the more traditional (Ballpark mustard, applewood-smoked bacon). If you find yourself lost among all the choices, a list of “suggestive wieners” is provided. You can also order up tater tots, a meatless dog and other items. Whether you partied a little too hard or couldn’t find a babysitter and got stuck at home for the night, this Cleveland comfort-food tradition will make you feel a little better. (Liz Trenholme)
