The 3rd Annual Roxy Remembered Revue

When: Sat., Feb. 23, 9 p.m. 2013

Join Cleveland’s La Femme Mystique Burlesque troupe tonight at the Beachland for their third annual Roxy Remembered Revue, a tribute to Cleveland’s historic Roxy Theatre, formerly a thriving burlesque and vaudeville hub on the once-lavish downtown strip known as “Short Vincent.” Event organizer Bella Sin, buxom doyenne of Northeast Ohio’s burgeoning burlesque scene, insists on the Roxy’s continued relevance: “We need to be able to remember where we came from to build a future. We want to honor those who paved the road for us. This is Burlesque History 101.” The entertainer’s enthusiasm isn’t empty nostalgic bluster: event proceeds will fund a commemorative marker at the site of the long-defunct historic theater. The revue, a sumptuous homage to the large-format variety shows of yesteryear, will feature performances by U.K. burlesque sensation Peggy De Lune, illusionist Stevie Reese Diamond, magician Ray Raymond, ventriloquist Nate Puppets, and something called the “Rock & Roll Follies,” unfortunately not a supergroup of Rock Hall rejects. Sin will also share photos and film footage of Cleveland’s ribald burlesque roots. (Hannah Franklin)
