This weekend kicks off SPACES Gallery’s partnership with artists Jon Rubin of Pittsburgh and Felipe Castelblanco of Colombia. Together, they’ll bring a rather unique exploration of foreign policy and globalism. Cleveland participants, dubbed “proxies” in this event, will connect with Iranian citizens via mobile technology. Iranians will speak directly with Cleveland citizens, guiding them through the country’s locales. Not to diminish the concept, but think “The Sims,” but real. Titled “The Foreigner,” this event is traveling to galleries and libraries across the U.S. with a goal of eliminating the distance between Americans and people on the other side of the world. The opening reception takes place from 6 until 8 tonight; you’ll also have the chance to see several other projects including artist-in-residence Jimmy Kuehnle's mobile project and the latest audio/video art in The Vault.
