This week’s version of Wade Oval Wednesdays features the New BarleyCorn, an Irish folk duo with legitimate Celtic roots. John Delaney and Alec DeGabriele hail from Dublin and County Down, Ireland, where Delany originally founded the internationally acclaimed group Barleycorn. Delaney’s understanding of many of the typically folky sounding instruments, like 5-string and tenor banjo, mandolin, guitar, and bodhrán, adds depth to the band’s set, which commonly features Irish classics “Whiskey In the Jar” and “Danny Boy.” (Jacob DeSmit)
