Clevelanders can take a lot of things, but being mistaken for Pittsburg isn’t one of them. Lucky for Pierce the Veil singer Vic Fuentes, who complimented the wrong city at last night’s sold out show at House of Blues, the band’s set had (and kept) the crowd so rowdy, no one really noticed. It helped that Fuentes showed off his good sense of humor when he described his band as “a bunch of Mexicans from San Diego,” and a group of “ugly mother fuckers” as it opened with the first three songs off its newest record Collide with the Sky. From the opening riff of “May These Noises Startle You in Your Sleep Tonight,” the crowd fought to get close to the stage, regardless of the fact the band had yet to come on stage. The show really got started with “Bulletproof Love,” which was just begging to be a sing along.
In the middle of the set, the band played “Hold on Til May,” which featured guest vocals from Tonight Alive’s singer Jenna McDougall. Fuentes dedicated the song to Mitch Lucker of Suicide Silence (who passed away earlier this month after a motorcycle accident). The band slowed things down with an acoustic performance of “Yeah Boy and Doll Face,” a track off its debut album. The call for a circle pit during “The Boy Who Could Fly,” the fastest song in the set, fell short (from an outsider’s opinion, watching from a safe distance away, of course). But the crowd made up for it during the group picture taken from stage. People were stacked up three high with utter disregard for their own safety. After the snapshot, the band had one more song left, and jumped right into “Caraphernelia,” the first single off its sophomore album Selfish Machines. But, let’s be honest, ending a show on this tour without playing “King for a Day,” a song featuring vocals from Sleeping With Sirens singer Kellin Quinn, would have been a big mistake. The song hit with such intensity (the confetti guns helped) that it didn’t matter that Quinn’s mic was broken for most of the song. Pierce the Veil and the fans had it covered.
