There are plenty of questions - and little in the way of answers - now that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is investigating a case of smuggled goldfish over at Perry Nuclear Plant.

Workers discovered the goldfish swimming in a juice pitcher earlier this week. Investigators will be digging through surveillance footage to try to determine who brought them into the plant. The NRC cited no immediate safety hazards, but did point out that the fish had been swimming in reactor water at one point.

Both fish died Thursday, though officials are blaming the deaths on lack of care.

Viktoria Mitlyng, speaking for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, says: “We’re also looking at the way the plant is responding to the issue. It is not a laughing matter.” And of course it's not. But it remains unclear what sort of motive would drive a person to bring fish into a nuclear plant and leave them there.
