Danzig Days: Tribute Tuesday

by

Danzig wrote one of the last songs recorded by the golden-era Guns ‘N Roses lineup. “Attitude” (originally from 1978) was an original blast of tough-guy hardcore, and it’s been a cult favorite through the years, even if the tributes seldom measure up.

Guns performed a flatline version on 1993’s The Spaghetti Incident?, the covers album that also features a take on “Ain’t It Fun,” a punk nugget by Cleveland’s Dead Boys. Pop-punk OGs Sum 41 also turned in a rendition with the tunefuleness turned up to nine and the kick-ass turned down to two. For menace and melody, the original remains the champ. —D.X. Ferris
