Danzig Days: Wicked Wednesday

by

For this Fiend's money, the first Danzig record is one of the best rock records of all time. Period. It sounds a little like Elvis fronting AC/DC. Rick Rubin produced it, but the bone-dry sound owed much to co-engineer Steve Ett and the analog sound board at Chung King studios — a combination that gave grit to classic records by Run-DMC and the Beastie Boys. "Mother" would become a hit single five years later, but "Twist of Cain" (above) is the one that still sends live crowds into a feeding frenzy. —D.X. Ferris
