Beach House
Teen Dream
(Sub Pop)

Teen Dream is sure to induce hazy infatuations in both teens and adults. Victoria Legrand’s seductive moans are dreamlike, enhanced by steaming-hot organ and Alex Scally’s intricately laced guitar. “Real Love” and “Zebra” recall the antique, autumnal feeling of Beach House’s self-titled 2006 debut. Think gypsy royalty and thick, velvety thrones. Yet the Baltimore-based duo has breathed more life into this batch of songs, a collection of faster-moving tunes fueled by captivating drum-machine beats. “Norway” finds them at their best, as Legrand gently syncopates her siren-like vocals to tribal rhythms and reverbed organ that floats through the air like hundreds of swirling balloons cut free. Ghosts and creaky attics come to mind on “Walk in the Park,” where the music’s timeless quality overlaps the equally ageless message that “only time can love you.” Teen Dream reaches for the simple pleasures of the past. Even better, the package includes a DVD with a music videos for each song. Even when the music gets old, watching a man pulling a ham sandwich out of his internal organs never will. —Danielle Sills
