Cleveland-area music photographer Karen Novak, who’s been documenting the local underground music scene for two decades, lost most of her possessions when her home in the Waterloo neighborhood burned down in June. Many of her artist and musician friends hosted a benefit for her at the Beachland Ballroom in July, and now they’re throwing a second, even bigger, one, on Monday, August 30, at the Grog Shop.
The stellar lineup is headlined by bludgeoning New York rockers Unsane, whom Novak has befriended and photographed throughout their 20-year career. Cleveland’s jarring ’90s noise-rockers, Craw, who still perform occasionally, will also be on the bill, along with local heavy quartet Nonfiction, featuring Buzz Boron of the Duvalby Bros.
The event will also include a raffle of rock memorabilia and a special four-color screen print poster designed by area artist John G., which he’ll autograph and sell at the show, with all proceeds going to Novak.
The evening starts at 7 p.m. with a barbecue — bring your own food or buy some there. Music starts at 9. Minimum donation is $10. —Anastasia Pantsios
