Austin noisemakers . . . And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead have had one hell of a crappy year. After releasing So Divided in late 2006, the band proceeded to fall apart over the next few months. There were reports of onstage fights and band members barely staying awake during shows. They even put out an online call for a new drummer. Recently, Trail of Dead and the deep-pocket record company that released its last three albums parted ways. Co-founders Conrad Keely and Jason Reece managed to keep it all together, and the restructured band — now beefed up to six members — is on the road, testing songs for a new album due sometime next year. Just don't expect to hear much from the relatively song-oriented So Divided; its controlled dream pop rarely finds space among all the feedback-drenched dissonance happening onstage these days.
