10 Things Going on this Weekend in Cleveland (October 3 - 5)

Throughout the year, runners have their pick of a variety of races. The Color Run, a touring road series, comes to town today with its new Kaleidoscope Tour. With no winners or official times, the Color Run puts the emphasis on the event itself, which involves getting doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. Individual runners pay a $50 registration fee. The race starts at 8 a.m. at Voinovich Park on the East Ninth Street pier. (Niesel)

Autumn is officially here, and that’s the theme of this month’s MIX party at the Cleveland Museum of Art. New-grass band Honeybucket will be on hand with music to get you into the harvest-season mood. And don’t forget: You can also tour the galleries to see great autumnal masterpieces specially chosen by the curators. You can watch expert pumpkin carvers from Illuminated Carves in action too, as they create amazing twists on the jack-o’-lantern, right there on site. As always, there will be drinks; tonight’s feature is a craft brew best enjoyed in the atrium’s beer garden. The event takes place from 5 to 9 tonight and tickets are $8. (Trenholme)

Few things in life pair more appropriately than good music and good food, but if you add a dash of charity, then you’ve got yourself a fine event. Hybrid Shakedown, Jah Messengers, Umojah Nation and Carlos Jones and PLUS will gather for the sixth annual Reggae for Food tonight at 7 p.m. at the CSU Student Center Ballroom. The event, organized each year by All Faiths Pantry, will raise money to connect families in need with helpful assistance and programming. All Faiths Pantry sources food from local food banks and farmers and national groups, then builds a client base and delivers much-needed meals. For this event, the reggae music is a nice bonus. “It's going to be a great concert for a really great cause,” one volunteer told us. Popular in the 1930s and ’40s, supper clubs offered Midwesterners places to meet and mingle while enjoying a good meal. To pay homage to that tradition, every Friday in October (and then again in January), Prosperity Social Club will present a supper club featuring classic cocktails and dinner specials. Expect to eat by candlelight and hear live music. “We debuted a month of supper clubs last year and it proved to be a really popular night out, so we’ve added six more nights this time around to accommodate demand,” says owner Bonnie Flinner in a press release. “It’s a fun and affordable Friday-night flashback that fits in perfectly with Prosperity’s already retro atmosphere.” The events take place from 8 to 10 p.m. (Niesel)

The Holden Arboretum gets in the Halloween spirit this weekend with its annual Goblins in the Garden. This family friendly event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and tomorrow. Daytime trick-or-treating will take place in the decorated gardens. There will be a corn stalk maze, wagon rides through the woods and other crafts and activities. Tickets are $10 per car for members (of either Holden Arboretum or Cleveland Botanical Garden) and $20 per car for non-members. Dogs on leashes are welcome. (Niesel)

Last year’s Miss Inked 216 event drew some 300 people to Liquid. And that was on a Monday night. So you can imagine that this year’s event, which takes place tonight at 6, will be an even bigger deal. International multi-ethnic model Bernadette Macias will serve as the host. When it comes to events such as these, she’s got a bit of experience. She served as MC on the national Uproar tour sponsored by Rockstar Energy Drink and she currently serves as a judge/host for the CMT reality show Tattoo Titans. Local party gal Cali Miles will be on hand too and will have her Bomb Squad in tow. Jus Mic and Kosher Kuts will provide the music. (Niesel)

DANCECleveland’s new season begins with a bang tonight as Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, a contemporary dance troupe with an 18-year history, performs at 3 p.m. at the University of Akron’s E.J. Thomas Hall. The company will perform a program of three recent ballets from its repertory. “Over Glow” will be set to music by Felix Mendelssohn and Ludwig van Beethoven, “Square None” will be danced to music by Alva Noto and Syuichi Sakamoto, Michelle Ross, George Frederic Handel and Aphex Twin, and “Return to a Strange Land” is set to music by Leos Janacek. Today from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Northeast Ohio’s Sisters in Crime mystery writers group is sponsoring a special series involving 12 local and nationally known authors. The writers will either be on-site or available via Skype at the Twinsburg Public Library to host a discussion about their work. Writers such as Amanda Flower, Isabella Alan, Kylie Logan, Casey Daniels, Kathryn Long, Shelley Costa, Jane Ann Turzillo, Julie Anne Lindsey, Catriona McPherson, Frankie Bailey, Hank Phillippi Ryan and Gloria Alden are all slated to participate and their books will be for sale too. For the first time ever, the anticipation surrounding this year's NBA season centers on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Granted, the San Antonio Spurs won the title last year, but the Cavs have the King and Kevin Love, one of the most coveted big men in the game. They should be unstoppable. You can get a preview of the new and improved squad tonight when the Cavs take on head coach David Blatt’s former club, the Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv. The game begins at 6 at Quicken Loans Arena.
