10 Things Going on this Weekend in Cleveland (September 12 - 14)

Fans of Iron and Wine are in luck: The band swings through Cleveland this weekend, stopping at the Grog Shop in Cleveland Heights on Sunday. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $30.

The Lakewood bar and restaurant Around the Corner marks its 40th anniversary weekend with some serious specials. Today the place will pass out 500 T-shirts with the purchase of a Miller Lite and offer a complimentary buffet; Tricky Dick performs at 9 p.m. Tomorrow, some 40 prizes will be given away, and burgers and wings will cost 40 cents. On Saturday, the place will give away more prizes and host a .040K Mustache Race (registration costs $15). On Sunday, the food and drink specials continue. (Niesel)

Tonight at Salute, a beer and wine event, you can enjoy an array of top European wines and craft beer samples with eight different tasting stations, each hosting a select wine and beer paired with compatible dish. The event takes place from 8 to midnight at Lago East Bank on the Veranda. DJ Mimo will spin and local singer Lauren Lanzaretta will perform. Tickets are $40, $65 for VIP. After performing all over town this summer, the folks at Ohio Burlesque are back at Beachland Ballroom for a special show tonight featuring both classic and neo-burlesque dancers. Dangrrr Doll, a dancer out of New York, holds a title for “most humorous act,” so don’t expect her to take herself too seriously when she performs tonight. The slew of special guests slated to perform include dancers from both far (New Mexico) and near (Columbus). A press release boasts there will be “aerials, belly dance, hula hoop and drag.” In other words, there’s something for everyone (assuming that person is over the age of 18). The show starts at 9 and tickets are $15 in advance and $17 at the door. (Niesel)

With the annual Latino Heritage Festival, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum celebrates Latin American culture and its musical traditions. Today’s event takes place from noon to 4 p.m. on the outside plaza of the Rock Hall. It features live performances by local musical acts, and Cleveland Latin music radio station La Mega 87.7 FM will emcee the event and broadcast live from the museum. Admission to the festival (but not the Rock Hall exhibits) is free. (Niesel)

The second annual Cleveland One World Festival returns to the Cleveland Cultural Gardens today and tomorrow. The festival, which takes place from 1 p.m. to dusk each day, features a wide array of arts and activities, including an international parade and performances on a dozen stages. Highlights include percussionists Jamey Haddad and Marcus Santos, who’ll lead an ensemble featuring drummers of all ages and cultural backgrounds. There will also be a naturalization ceremony of 25 local immigrants. Vendors will be selling arts and crafts too. Admission is free. (Niesel)

Award-winning comedian, author, and filmmaker Mike Birbiglia returns to the stage with more painfully awkward stories in a show about jokes, and how they can get you in trouble. Join Birbiglia as he he gets arrested in New Jersey, screamed at by a famous director, heckled by Statler and Waldorf, and attacked by zombie rodents. Ira Glass of public radio's This American Life writes "Birbiglia's stories are even funnier live than they are on the radio." Time Magazine calls Birbiglia "master of the personal, embarrassing tale." The New York Times describes him as a "supremely enjoyable monologist." It all goes down tonight at Conner Palace at Playhouse Square. $46.50

Now in its 25th year, the Chalk Festival at the Cleveland Museum of Art celebrates the last days of summer with beautiful works of art drawn on the walkways of the Fine Arts Garden. Taken from an Italian Renaissance tradition —where beggars recreated the works of Raphael on the plazas — the event allows you to admire the chalkworks as they progress over the course of the weekend. If you have kids, check out the Second Sunday Family Day inside the museum too. It runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and noon to 5 p.m. tomorrow. Admission is free. (Trenholme)

The Browns are back for another season, so kick off the season home opener right with some Muni Lot tailgating. Kickoff against the New Orleans Saints is at 1 p.m. Tailgating will start well before.

Mutts and martinis can mix. At least that’s the concept behind the fourth annual Muttsquerade Ball, a benefit for the local organization Dogs Unlimited Rescue that takes place today from 5 to 9 p.m. at downtown’s Red the Steakhouse. This event features martini and wine bars, food, live music and a chance to help a local animal rescue. Because Dogs Unlimited Rescue is an all-volunteer organization, every dollar raised goes directly toward abused and neglected animals in dire need of human advocates and aid. Fox 8’s Stefani Schaefer will host the event. Tickets are $100 in advance, $125 at the door. (Niesel)
