While pop star Boy George’s appearance last night at Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica where he DJ-ed at a Gay Games white party didn’t draw a capacity crowd, the patrons that did attend filled the dance floor in front of the stage and danced steadily during the duration of the event. Boy George, who was decked out in a red cowboy hat, appeared thrilled as he arrived on stage at about 10:30 p.m. Before taking over at the DJ booth, he snapped a few photos of the attendees with his camera phone. During his 90-minute set, Boy George played a variety of music that ranged from hip-hop (the Beatrangers & Boogie Vice’s “We$t Coa$t”) to house (Carl Cox’s “Black Rock Desert Mix”). He regularly sang over the top of the mixes and encouraged patrons to wave their hands in unison. He got the best reaction from the crowd when he played New Wave songs like the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams,” an ‘80s tune cut from the same cloth as the music he used to play with his group Culture Club. The concert was for a good cause too as Scene, Liquid Nightclub, Tru Events and Jacobs Pavilion donated $1 from every ticket sold to the LGBT fund at the Cleveland Foundation. — Jeff Niesel
