Seasonal Special Happenings

A Day in the Life

When: Thu., Sept. 11 2014

It would be rare for an 83-minute black-and-white slacker comedy to make much noise in the States during Oscar season, but A Coffee in Berlin, (an 83-minute b&w slacker comedy), swept the Lolas (German Oscars) last year. This film, about nothing much in particular, took home honors in directing, acting, and screenwriting in addition to winning Best Picture. The film charts a single day in the life of a college dropout trying to reconnect with humanity. Comparisons to both Jim Jarmusch and Woody Allen abound. If you can’t make tonight’s 6:45 screening at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque, you have another chance tomorrow at 9:20. Tickets are $9. (Sam Allard)
