A Fabulous Fiesta

When: Thu., Sept. 4 2014

The first work of modern Latin American art entered the collection of Oberlin’s Allen Memorial Art Museum (AMAM) way back in 1936. Now the collection boasts more than 200 modern and contemporary works by artists from 12 countries. For the first time, the museum will showcase the artwork in the comprehensive exhibition Latin American and Latino Art at the Allen, an exhibit that’s part of the AMAM’s yearlong focus on the Americas. Artists from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico and Uruguay will be represented alongside U.S. artists. There’s perhaps no better way to kick off the event than with a fiesta. The opening party takes place today from 5 to 8 p.m. It’ll feature Latin American-themed music, food and wine. (Niesel)
