If it takes more than a crummy T-shirt to get you up and running, here’s some real incentive: Participate in today’s 5K fun run in Lakewood, and executive chef Regan Reik will make you lunch! It’s all part of Pier W’s Copper River Salmon Run: a celebration of the start of the wild salmon’s season and a fundraiser for the non-profit Malachi House. Or as Reik puts it: “It’s a fun opportunity to experience the best salmon in the world while supporting a great local cause.” Registration is at 9 a.m. in Lakewood Park, 14532 Lake Ave. Runners (and walkers) step off at 10 a.m.. Afterward, they’re all invited back to Pier W for lunch on the deck overlooking Lake Erie. That’s where Chef Reik will be grilling up Copper River salmon burgers, along with beef burgers, vegan burgers, and turkey dogs too. Water, sports drinks, and, mmm...beer will be provided. Advance registration is $25 online, or register on race day for $30. (Non-runners can show up for lunch for just $8.) And yes, the first 300 registrants get a T-shirt. Find details on the website.
