A Good Cry

When: Sat., July 18 2015

Everyone loves sad animal movies, the ones that teach the value of selflessness and patience. Even artists can appreciate a good theme presented through the doe eyes of a donkey. Au Hasard Balthazar (or Balthazar at Random in English) is Robert Bresson’s French film chronicling the birth and death of a saintly donkey. As he grows, a young girl (these films always have a young girl) bonds with Balthazar. They share their trials and tribulations as the donkey teaches her how to endure the world’s abuse. If you want a good cry, the film’s showing tonight at 7 p.m. at the Cleveland Institute of Art’s Cinemateque. Tickets are $9. (Rees)
