A Royal Affair

When: Thu., March 27 2014

Mozart’s classic opera Don Giovanni gets an interesting interpretation in tonight’s filmed showing of the Royal Opera House’s production. The original tragic comedy depicts the titular character as a womanizing nobleman who meets an unfortunate end. In director Kasper Holten’s vision, each one of Giovanni’s sexual conquests represent him fighting his mortality. Each woman embodies a life he could have had but ultimately squandered, leading this version into dark places and focusing more on the drama than comedy. With an outstanding cast, including one of the world’s foremost Giovannis, tonight’s showing at 7 at the Capitol Theatre provides an interesting and delightful time for any opera fan. Tickets are $20. (Patrick Stoops)
