A sneak peak at the Rock Hall's new Elvis Exhibit

The new Elvis exhibit at the Rock Hall doesn't open until 10 a.m. on Nov. 29, but we went to the Rock Hall for a preview of what will be on display. The exhibit will center on Elvis’ Army career, the 1968 television comeback special and his appearances in Lake Tahoe. Presley’s Graceland has loaned the Rock Hall more than 40 items for the exhibit. Key items in the collection include the following: a 1975 custom made SuperTrike motorcycle, a selection of his personal jewelry and a new film created expressly for the exhibit. Curatorial director Howard Kramer spoke about some of the key artifacts as he showed them to us. "There's so much to talk about with Presley," says Kramer. "We wanted to do something we hadn't done in a while. I work with Graceland and sometimes we'll get things they haven't exhibited at Graceland, which is kind of cool."

It’s surrounded by diamonds. There are 12 diamonds there. I think it’s a 40-karat opal. It’s really iridescent. That was a custom piece.

This was not a custom piece. It’s a King Midas Rolex that was given to Elvis by the people at the Houston Livestock show in 1970 He was right-handed but he wore it on his right wrist. You usually wear it on your opposite wrist. It’s a limited edition and very desirable.

This is the first rock ’n’ roll T-shirt. NO one was making T-shirts prior to 1956 for rock n’ roll artists because there really weren’t any. I have not seen a 1955 Bill Haley T-shirt yet.

This is a six-string bass and six-string guitar. At the time, Gibson would custom make any double neck guitar you wanted. Any combination. This was provided to Elvis for the film Spin-out. He liked it so much, he bought the guitar.
