All About Italy

When: Thu., Sept. 12 2013

Billing itself as the first independent film festival to exclusively showcase award winning films from Italy, the Cleveland Italian Film Festival kicks off today. Over the next four Thursdays, go see a diverse lineup and get acquainted with the Italian cinematic landscape. Tonight’s screening is the 2011 Comedy Escort in Love. It’s about a housewife living in a posh part of Rome who turns to prostitution when her husband kicks the bucket and leaves her with inordinate debt. According to some Italian reviewers, the film starts off pretty cheesy, but gets better once you recognize the “satiric barbs” aimed at the politician Berlusconi. The film shows at 7:30 this evening at the Cedar Lee. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased in advance. (Sam Allard)
