Returning from a UK tour with the War on Drugs, Amen Dunes have been kicking around some really cool acoustic-psychedelic music lately. The band’s January 2015 EP, Cowboy Worship, exemplifies Damon McMahon’s rambling freeway songwriting style. This is off-kilter Midwestern folk filtered through New York City’s transient way of life. Album opener “I Know Myself (Montreal)” is a nice, straightforward tune that buzzes with youthful energy before seguing amid studio banter into “Song to the Siren.” The latter is jangly and wandering, but McMahon’s emotional vocals string everything together in an enticing manner. Keep an eye out for this band. (Eric Sandy)
