Seasonal Special Happenings

An Animated Allegory

When: Fri., Aug. 9, 7 p.m. and Sun., Aug. 11, 1:30 p.m. 2013

You won’t confuse The Painting, director Jean Francois Laguionie’s animated movie about a painter who leaves behind an unfinished canvas, with a Disney flick. This film about an existential crisis is simply too dark. And it features brief animated nudity. The plot is this: After the painter’s departure, the characters on the canvas come to life and desperately wonder where the guy has gone. They maintain they’ll “wander the earth to find him” and wander they do, encountering a group of soldiers who want to kill them along the way. It screens at 7 p.m. tonight and at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Tickets are $9. (Jeff Niesel)

Price: $9
