Angela Perley & the Howlin' Moons

When: Fri., Jan. 3, 9 p.m. 2014

Angela Perley & the Howlin' Moons' hard rocking new single, "Hurricane," sounds like a cross between Joan Jett and Patsy Cline. It's the lead track from the Columbus-based band's full-length debut, Hey Kid, an album that singer Perley says is "a rock record with country roots influences." Perley, who grew up in Hilliard, started writing songs when she was still in high school and initially put together an all-girl pop-punk band. Then, while attending college at Ohio University in Athens, she began to develop an alt-country bent. She put the Columbus-based alt-country act Angela Perley & the Howlin' Moons together in 2009, and the band's been going strong ever since. (Niesel)
