Mr. Hulot's Holiday
Director Jacques Tati's breakthrough movie (from 1953) doesn't offer much of a plot: Monsieur Hulot (played by Tati) goes to the beach for a summer vacation. The near-silent film has influenced generations of filmmakers — from Peter Sellers (The Party and The Pink Panther movies both pay tribute) to Jean-Pierre Jeunet (its inspiration is all over Amélie). The Cinematheque is showing a shiny new restored version this week. The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. At 7 p.m. Thursday, November 4, and 5:15 p.m. Saturday, November 6.
