Okay, it's not exactly downtown, but it's just a short walk across the Detroit-Superior Bridge to West 28th Street. Here, you get a lot more loft for a lot less money -- the biggest are 1,600 square feet for $1,100. The amenities are spectacular. A rooftop deck affords a postcard-quality view of downtown and Lake Erie. The gym -- which in some buildings amounts to a Bowflex and a jump rope -- is stuffed with cardio machines and weights. And unlike some recently rehabbed buildings, this actually feels like a true loft -- all high ceilings and exposed ductwork. The only thing that could make it more authentic is seamstresses.
