Best Coach

John Lucas

The Cavs' 29-53 record last year belies the fact that, given the team's lack of talent, Lucas deserved consideration for Coach of the Year. Against long odds and amid thousands of empty seats at the Gund, the first-year Cavs coach had his team playing hard, if not always well. For all the losses, "Luc," as he's known, clearly won and held the respect of his men, who didn't dare quit on him as they had his sad-sack predecessor, Randy Wittman. Now, if the brass would just find him a couple more NBA-caliber players, Lucas could steer the Cavs back to the playoffs.
