It's Tribe time, which means for a limited time you can savor the husky malts of the Rally Drum Red Ale and Conway's Irish Ale. But Great Lakes has grown into a regional empire that cares about a lot more than just beer. Great Lakes incorporates sustainability, recycling and energy efficiency into every aspect of its business model. They've got an organic farm down at Hale Farm & Village, near Akron, to grow produce for the brewpub. What they don't grow themselves, they get from local vendors. Additionally, their delivery truck and "Fatty Wagon" shuttle run exclusively on vegetable oil. They even find creative ways to reuse low-fill beers: Mitchell's Ice Cream, anyone? Great Lakes Brewing Company's influence has spread across the Midwest, and it's gratifying that Cleveland is known for such a high-quality, high-minded product.
