Six or so years ago when SoHo first opened up in Ohio City in the former Lelolai bakery spot, its name was just a little bit different and its focus a little more broad — SoHo Kitchen and Bar, with a broad focus on New Southern cuisine. You'll still find Southern staples like deviled eggs and the Low Country boil on the menu, but many of the initial offerings have been pared down and the homey yet chic restaurant's newish moniker — SoHo Chicken + Whiskey — reflects the focus. Put "chicken" in your name and you better do it right, and SoHo does. Perfectly fried thighs and breasts (mild or hot) are served up with a variety of sides in combinations that track the day, from Sunrise, dished up with sausage and an egg, to Late Night, which comes with mac and cheese and collards. Stop by on Wednesday nights for some a la carte chicken pickin' with pieces and sides for less than $5.
