Ripe From Downtown Salsa

Since 1996, the Cleveland Botanical Garden's Green Corps has been engaging Cleveland public high-school students in urban farming, reclaiming unused land, and growing and selling crops. One of the results of the students' efforts is Ripe From Downtown Salsa. Working from a recipe provided by Chef Sergio Abramof (Sergio's at University Circle and Sergio's Sarava at Shaker Square), the young agri-preneurs produce thousands of jars of the stuff and sell it at the Shaker Square and Cleveland Clinic farmers markets, as well as Abramof's restaurants, the Market Café and Wine Bar, and the Botanical Garden's gift shop. We bought a jar a couple weeks ago, but supplies typically don't last long so stock up now — and support a great cause. (;;
