Bo Loong has all the major ingredients of a great karaoke bar. First, its drinks are strong as hell. The restaurant's recipe for mixed drinks: Add one ice cube and a thimble of soda, then start pouring vodka. Once you're properly lubed, you're ready to tackle the songbook, which is three inches thick and weighs as much as a dictionary. As at many traditional karaoke joints, about half of Bo Loong's songs are in Asian languages. The other half are unintentionally hilarious translations of Western hits. And instead of American-style karaoke videos, where D-list actors from the 1980s flirt and pout, Bo Loong plays home movies of ocean waves rolling into some beach resort in Thailand. It's surreal and great, and it sure makes for a memorable evening.
