Best Knitting Night

Stitch N' Bitch Cleveland

In a hip bar/café like Lakewood's Bela Dubby, the last thing you'd expect to see is a group of women knitting. But every Tuesday night, that's exactly what you get -- twenty- and thirtysomethings furiously purling over coffee and beer. A local branch of the famed Stitch N' Bitch, a group started in New York by BUST magazine co-founder Debbie Stoller, SNB Cleveland is not your grandma's knitting circle. These girls bring a distinctly punk flavor to the art form, felting artful totes for records and stitching wild neons into scarves. Their core group is a mixture of friendly knitters and crocheters who actively recruit novices, experts, and cross-dressing cross-stitchers alike. Even if you've never picked up a pair of needles, someone will happily give you a lesson in exchange for a pint. And if Lakewood's too much of a trek, the group has branched off into the East Side and Akron.
