When Simone's began work on an addition last year, some Lakewood neighbors assumed the brightly lit liquor store would be adding staples like garbage bags and deli sandwiches to its aisles of gin and rum. Not so. What owners Simon and Marc Zkiab did instead was add 3,000 varieties of wine. They also added cigars, bulked up an already sizable liquor collection, and began Saturday-night wine tastings. The huge new store does include an aisle or two of Rice-a-Roni and dish soap, but the rest is all the good stuff. Since opening 18 years ago, the Zkiabs have moved or renovated Simone's a total of four times, growing on each occasion. Their ever-thirsty neighborhood continues to drink it up.
