Cleveland Animal Protective League

The century-old humane society in Tremont aims to provide 100-percent placement of the thousands of adoptable animals that come into its care every year. Stray, abandoned, neglected and abused animals are taken in and cared for by the APL "with respect, empathy and kindness." Get in touch with them and see how you can help out the noble nonprofit, or if you're thinking about adopting a new pet, do what you can to rescue one of these cute creations. Also, whenever you're feeling a little down, just Google "Lurleen the cat" to read the global headlines from last summer — with the most adorable photographs and video of all time — about a cat there nursing and caring for a week-old orphaned pit bull puppy that had just been taken in by the APL. It'll melt even the iciest heart.
