This is not a judgment of the new courthouse's architectural value. In truth, it's hardly the most interesting building in the world. No, this is more about putting aside our snide cynicism toward our hometown for a moment. There's something hopeful about tall buildings under construction, a reminder that, for all its faults and setbacks, Cleveland has come a long way and continues to move forward, no matter how clumsily at times. Perhaps the fact that it's a federal building should mitigate our optimism -- it's not as if it's the new world headquarters for Cisco Systems or anything -- but we'll take it for now. It's better than a Ferris wheel.
