A decade ago, the no-kill Geauga County Humane Society operated out of what felt like a large trailer. Now they run a bucolic rural "Rescue Village." Dog-walking trails wind through the woods behind the building, allowing canine orphans to romp with volunteers and audition for prospective owners. Cats here enjoy the run of a spacious social room where they can engage in the two great feline pastimes: lounging and playing together. Rescue Village even sponsors week-long camps in the spring and summer that teach kids how to better understand animal welfare.
