The current United States senator (Dem.) and husband of Connie Schultz replaces beloved Dennis (!) Kucinich on the readers' winners list this year. Brown was easily re-elected to the United States Senate in 2012 after facing the historically nasty campaign from then-State Treasurer Josh Mandel. The pro-gay rights, pro-choice, pro-Affordable Care Act, pro-voting access, pro-union Senator and his Pulitzer Prize-winning wife moved from their Avon home last summer to the Mill Creek neighborhood in southeast Cleveland, telling the Plain Dealer, "Ten minutes from the ballpark and two minutes from the Metroparks: What's not to love about that?" Welcome to the city, Sherrod. He may sometimes look like he rolled out of bed in his suit, but Brown's downhome personality and tireless efforts to fight for the average American make him someone voters can identify with and rally behind.
