When it comes to the rails, ledges, and ramps of Lakewood's public skate park, you won't find any treacherous rough asphalt or rickety portable ramps — these obstacles are all smooth and heavy-duty concrete built for the long haul. Mom can even settle in on the spectator bleachers and pretend to read a magazine, or send her over to Foster Pool or the fabulous Kids' Cove playground nearby. According to Vince Frantz of the LKWD Skaters Association, you'll have plenty of company: Skaters descend from Ashland to Sandusky for their chance to navigate the concrete quarter pipes and stair set from daybreak till bedtime. For tinier tots, the association offers seasonal skating lessons for kids as young as three.
