Best Theater Company

Cleveland Public Theatre

Even though CPT presented a truncated performance season (due to the financial bind that most theaters experienced), it continued to serve as a beacon of theatrical excellence in other ways. Its Student Theater Enrichment Program employed economically challenged youths in a five-week course of intense theater training, culminating in the highly entertaining production, Bliss. It assisted homeless men in developing a production and accomplished a similar feat with abused women, in partnership with the Elyria YWCA. CPT made its facility available to many artists, including a number of innovative dance companies. And it presented a couple of splendid offerings of its own: Blue Sky Transmission: A Tibetan Book of the Dead and the rowdy musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
